PSG of Arts & science college, Consumer Club presents, CONCORDIA and inter department competition –
ANNUAL GENERAL BODY MEETING 2023-24
Citizens Voice Coimbatore held its Annual General Body Meeting, at their premises on the evening of 3rd August, with over 35 members in attendance. The annual report for the year 2023 – 24 was presented by Mr. M.M. Rajendran – Secretary, who highlighted the major projects / events undertaken during the year. The report was passed unanimously and recorded accordingly.
Treasurer – Mr. Balasubramanian, presented the financials for the last year and confirmed that IT returns have been filed and accepted.
Mr. C.M. Jayaraman, President addressed the members, highlighting the various projects being planned for the current year and requested member friends to spread the word about CVC and its goals to affiliate more educational institutions with CVC.
Mr. Subramanian, Coordinator briefly explained the success stories related to the few Consumer Cases taken up by the CVC team. Two of the ‘Complainants’ who had obtained favorably judgements against their petitions were also present at the meeting. Mr. Murali (Complainant in the Professional Courier case) and Ms. Achsha (Complainant in the Meesho / Fashnear Technologies case) donated Rs. 5000 each to CVC as a goodwill gesture for having taken up their Consumer Cases.
Mr. Sathiyanathan, one of our core members, decided to take a break for a year to pursue his higher studies in Law, at Symbiosis Law College, NOIDA. The entire team of CVC thanked him for his unstinted support and services during his tenure and wished him luck and also requested him to consider helping the team where possible.
CVC announced the joining of another law graduate Mrs. Sulochana, in place of Mr. Sathya to take care of the office correspondence and help in taking up consumer cases to the District Consumer Forum.
National Conclave on ‘Fair and Responsible AI (Artificial Intelligence) for Consumers
To mark the World Consumer Rights Day, on 15th March 2024, in coordination with the College Consumer Club, School of Commerce and Dept. of Civil Supplies & Consumer Protection, conducted a full day National Conclave on ‘Fair and Responsible AI (Artificial Intelligence) for Consumers.
Citizens Voice Coimbatore were a among the invitees along with other eminent members of the Panel. The speakers on the dais including the following:1. Mr. Nehemiah. R – Deputy Commissioner & Consumer Protection Officer, Chennai South, Govt of T.Nadu2. Mr. Sujith Sukumaran – Deputy Vice President, Federal Bank, Coimbatore Office3. Mr. Krishna Mohan. K.S. – Admin. & Editor for Newsletter, Consumer Advocacy Group, Andhra Pradesh.4. Mr. C.P. Hariharan – Sr. Branch Manager, Sharekhan Ltd, Coimbatore Regional Office.Dr. Sumathy, HOD of Commerce Dept. welcomed the gathering and Dr. Vijila Kennedy, Principal of KCLAS gave the presidential address, highlighting the importance of Artificial Intelligence in today’s world. It was followed by Mr. Nehemiah’s speech who gave delivered a thoughtful speech about the role of AI in Consumerism.This was followed by Mr. Krishna Mohan’s lecture which was very insightful speech, giving the basics of AI and how it is likely to affect Consumers at large.Subsequent to this, Mr. Sujith Sukumaran of Federal Bank made a presentation evidencing how the banking sector is involved with AI, to help consumers, covering all relevant areas including privacy of information at the main servers of the Bank.Mr. C.P. Hariharan of Sharekhan, delivered a briefing on how the Stock Markets are being affected thru’ AI and that students and general Public need to exercise caution while responding to messages / advertisements, especially those related to Mutual Funds.The Conclave was well coordinated by Dr. Sridevi, Associate Professor KCLAS, who had taken keen interest in taking up this subject, of AI which is taking huge strides in Consumerism.
GUEST LECTURE AT RVS INSTITUTIONS
As a part of celebrations for the World Consumer Rights Day, M/s RVS Institute of Management Studies, had requested Citizens Voice Coimbatore to present a guest lecture to ‘first year’ MBA students on 21st March 2024, on the subject of Consumer Protection and Solid Waste Management.Mr. Damodaran welcomed the gathering, consisting of close to 100 students of the MBA. Dr. Viswanathan – Director & HOD of Management Studies, delivered the key note address. Mr. Jayaraman – President of CVC gave a lecture, covering the basic concept laws of Consumer Protection Act 2019, including numerous examples of how the common ‘consumer’ can exercise his rights. It was followed by a speech given by Subramanian – Coordinator, on Solid waste management and its impact on environment. Subsequently, he provided the various options available to students to pursue waste management, as a ‘career’ and become entrepreneurs of tomorrow.Mr. M.M. Rajendran – Secretary of CVC gave a thoughtful speech about the importance of ‘segregation of waste at source’ and also about the advantages of conquering stage fright. The team played a short video about the first Certificate Course conducted by CVC and the advantages of taking up this course.Mrs. Revathi proposed a vote of thanks, thanking the team who had come from CVC for the session.
National Consumer Rights Celebration- 2023
CVC in association with Consumer Club of PSGR Krishnammal college conducted a Consumer Protection Awareness program & about e-filing of consumer complaints, as a part of the National Consumer Day celebration on 6th January 2024.Mr. Pranav Vishnu Arjun – Assistant Professor of Govt Law College, gave a lecture on CPA, highlighting the recent amendments of 2019 and also gave a demo of ‘how to file an e complaint’ on the E Daakhil website.It was well attended and interactive program, with over 200 students from the Commerce stream aspiring to become more responsible citizens in the days to come.Dr. Gomathy – Asst Professor, Commerce Dept of PSGR Krishnammal college welcomed the gathering and Club Coordinator Ms. D. Elizamathi proposed a vote of thanks.
Signature Campaign for ‘Potholes on the roads’ in Coimbatore
Citizens’ Voice Coimbatore, intends to conduct a signature campaign, like never before, to bring to the notice of the concerned Highways, District Administration ,Corporation & Highways Authorities, highlighting the immediate necessity to maintain our roads, especially in the suburbs of the city.To this end, we propose to create a google form and look forward to the participation from the student community and public at large, to get a wider coverage. We wish to initially include all the Colleges who have signed MOU with us and subsequently, we propose to take it to public and like-minded Consumer Voluntary Organizations, service organisations, residential welfare organisations & public spirited individuals based in Coimbatore.
Kindly complete the enclosed Google form and it would be preferred if you could attach a photo of the location, depicting the condition of the road. - WORKSHOP ON ‘REVAMPING THE WORK SPACE’ INDUSTRY CHALLENGESOur Coordinator, Mr. Subramanian was invited by Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts & Science, to deliver a lecture & conduct a Workshop on ‘Revamping the Work Space’ Industry Challenges. The lecture was attended by over 60 students of Ist year B.Com including few of the Commerce Faculty staff. CVC conducted a quiz and also an workshop, which included carrying out a SWOT analysis in 5 major industry sectors. It was well perceived program, with an interactive session which kept the students engaged thru’ out the session.We thank the Management of KCLAS to having giving CVC an opportunity to educate their students, on this relevant topic.
- CVC- Plant Sapling CeremonyCVC jointly with NGM College Pollachi and Pollachi Municipality conducted a ‘Plant Sapling Ceremony’ at a Micro Composting Plant on 18th July. The innovative initiative, driven by Citizens Voice Coimbatore was well received by the Municipal authorities and plants were sown by the outgoing batch of students of NGM College Pollachi, who successfully completed the Certificate Course on CPA, Solid Waste Management and RTI.Mrs. Shyamala, Chairperson – Pollachi Municipality was the Chief Guest for the function, accompanied by Mrs. Sridevi – Commissioner, Pollachi Municipality, Mr. P.Muruganad Pollachi Municipal Health Officer, Mr. Shivakumar – Supervisor MCC and Mr. Ganesh – Sanitary Inspector. Staff from NGM College included Dr. P.Bruntha – HOD Commerce Dept, NGM Pollachi, Dr. R. Manikandan – Associate Prof. Commerce Dept, NGM Pollachi and Dr. Shanmuga Priya – Asst Prof. Commerce Dept. NGM Pollachi.The first sapling was sown by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Shyamala, followed by the students of NGM College. The Chief Guest addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of better waste management, especially domestic waste. The officials took the students on a tour of the Micro Composting Plant, emphasizing the importance of segregation and treating wet waste to produce manure.The highlight of these 50 saplings are flowering plants that would emit fragrance to quill bad odor from the Micro Composting Centre, thus maintaining a better environment, in the surrounding.

INAGURAL FUNCTION FOR II- BATCH CERTIFICATE COURSE
Citizens Voice Coimbatore, in collaboration with PG & Research Dept. of Commerce, N.G.M College Pollachi had organized an inaugural function for SECOND batch of students for its Certificate Course on Consumer Protection, Waste Management & its Impact on Environment, on 8th August at their college.
Dr. P.Bruntha – H.O.D Commerce Dept. of NGM College welcomed the gathering and highlighted the key points of this course to the students and wished them all success in the course.
The Chief Guest for the function was Mr. Srirangam R. Murali – (Retd) Asst. Director of All India Radio / Doordarshan, who gave an excellent key note address, stressing the need & importance of Consumer Protection in our society.
Dr. R.Manicka Chezian – Principal of NGM College, gave the Presidential address, once again highlighting the need for such a certificate course, to be pursued along with their core subjects. He appreciated the efforts being taken by CVC in conducting such a course, to enhance the skills of the young citizens of tomorrow.
President of CVC, Mr. C.M. Jayaraman, gave an introductory speech about Consumer Protection and highlighted the salient features of the CP Act. He & the team from CVC honored the Chief Guest and the ‘class topper’ of the previous batch. He formally kicked off the course, which will continue over the next 10 weekends with a panel of eminent faculty members, who will take lectures in person at NGM College.
Dr. Karthiga – Asst Prof. of Commerce Dept & Joint Coordinator of the course, informed the students of the various faculty members who conducted the course for the previous batch and requested students to join the course in more numbers, to develop their career skills for a better tomorrow in their lives.
Dr. Manikandan – Associate Prof. of Commerce Dept. proposed a vote of thanks and thanked the entire team from CVC for having taken pains to conceptualize this unique course and have come back to NGM to conduct this course for the second time.
ORIENTATION PROGRAM ON CPA & UNFAIR TRADE PRACTISES
Citizens Voice Coimbatore was invited by the Dept. of Commerce (consumer club) of Pollachi College of Arts & Science, to conduct an Orientation Program on Consumer Protection Act & Unfair Trade Practices.The core team from Citizens Voice, including President Mr. C.M. Jayaraman, Secretary Mr. M.M. Rajendran, Advisor Mr. R. Kumar, Coordinator Mr. Subramanian, Mr. Prasanna and Ms. Sulochana were present for the function that was organized on 8th Aug. 2024, at their college premises.Ms. N.Maheshprabha – Asst Prof of Commerce Dept. welcomed the guests and students at the function. Dr. D. Kannan, Principal of the college delivered the presidential address and highlighted the issues related to unfair trade practices. He emphasized the importance of understanding the CPA and how they could make use of it in time to come. Mr. C.M. Jayaraman – President of CVC outlined the salient features of CPA, with examples and explained the intricacies involved on how Consumers could file complaints ‘on line’. He requested students to join the Consumer Club in more numbers and spread the awareness of Consumer Protection to society at large. Mr. Subramanian. P – Coordinator of CVC spoke briefly about the effect of climate change and how it effects environment. He explained the devastating effects, mankind would have to face, if ecological balance is lost. The importance of waste management – starting from its segregation to disposing the waste was explained to the students. Ms. Christina – Asst Prof of Commerce Dept. proposed a vote of thanks and appreciated the members of CVC for having come all the way to conduct this program.
NEXT STEP TO BUSINESS
PSG College of Arts & Science, celebrated the Worlds Consumer Rights Day, on 16th March, in collaboration with Citizens Voice Coimbatore, on the topic ‘ Next Steps for Business’ with over 350 students in attendance.The program was coordinated with the Consumer Club students of the college, along with Dr. B. Abirami – HOD Commerce, Dr. C. Magesh, Faculty Coordinator and Dr. Jayalakshmi, Convenor of the Consumer Club.Dr. Jayalakshmi welcomed the gathering followed by Mr. C.M. Jayaraman, President CVC who gave the key note address and highlighted few of the major achievements by CVC during the last four decades. He also mentioned in brief about a couple of live Consumer cases taken up by CVC at the Consumer Court.Mr. R. Kumar, Advisor of CVC enlightened the students about the salient features of the Consumer Protection Act 2019, including recent examples of how many large scale companies are using unfair trade practice to enhance their product sales.A vote of thanks was proposed by the Student Coordinator of the Consumer Club, who thanked the resources persons of CVC for having taken the time out for this function, on a weekend.
Guest Lecture at CMS College of Science & Commerce , Coimbatore
As a part of the Worlds Consumer Rights Day Celebrations, for 2024 CMS College of Science & Commerce, Coimbatore they held Consumer Awareness program for their college students on 14th March during the forenoon. CMS College of Science & Commerce signed an MOU with Citizens Voice Coimbatore, and the agreement was exchanged at the function by the College Principal and Mr. C. M. Jayaraman, President of CVC.
Dr Jisha Convenor of the Consumer Club welcomed the gathering & highlighted the achievements of their club and also made a video presentation, of the same.
The function was presided over by their Principal Dr. H. Balakrishnan gave the presidential address highlighting the importance of the student community to be aware of the Consumer Protection Act and also about the risks involved in sharing of sensitive information on various platforms thru’ smart phones.
President, C.M. Jayaraman gave the keynote address, highlighting few of the achievements of CVC and also informed the students about a couple of Consumer Court Cases taken up by CVC.
Mr. R.Kumar, Advisor of CVC explained the highlights of the Consumer Protection Act 2019 and the ‘Rights’ as a Consumer, with few live examples including issues related to unfair trade practice.
Mr. Subramanian. P, Coordinator of CVC requested the students to give a thought of making a career from Waste after their graduation, as the opportunities are abundant in this field.
CVC AGITATION DEMANDING TO RESUME TRAIN
CVC joins an agitation demanding the following issues along with other like minded service organizations at Coimbatore Railway Station- To resume train service to southern districts through Pollachi;
- Night train to Bangalore from Coimbatore;
- Request Trifurcate to decongest Coimbatore Junction.
- DONATIONS TO CVC EXEMPTED UNDER 80 GDuring the committee meeting of CVC held on 28th Feb. 2024 at the GEEDEE meeting room, three of its members made voluntary contributions for the running of CVC. - Citizens Voice Coimbatore was invited by Pollachi Arts & Science College, to deliver a guest lecture ‘Consumer Protection – Rights & Responsibilities of the Consumer’ & ‘Solid Waste Management – its Impact on Environment’. The program was held 10th Jan 2024, with over 200 students in attendance from their Arts & Commerce stream. College Principal Dr. Kannan, PhD delivered the Welcome address and Mrs. J. Sanpriya, M.Com, M.Phil HOD of Commerce felicitated the Guests.Mr. C.M. Jayaraman – President CVC took up the lecture session regarding Consumer Awareness, followed by Mr. Subramanian. P – Coordinator CVC gave a lecture on Solid Waste Management. It was an interactive session, with active participation by the students. - CVC- Indian Oil Corporation Awareness ProgramCitizens Voice Coimbatore in coordination with officials from Indian Oil Corporation conducted a ‘Safety Clinic’ program on the safe use of LPG, for the students of NGM College Pollachi, at the Dr. Abdul Kalam Memorial Hall, at the college premises on 18th July 2023.Mr. C.M. Jayaraman, President CVC welcomed the gathering and introduced the guest speakers to the audience.Mr. Saravanan – Divisional Manager, IOC Coimbatore spoke at length about the safe usage of LPG Cylinders, methods to check validity of cylinder life, methods to conserve LPG at homes. He also explained the advantages of changing over from the conventional mild steel cylinders to composite fibre cylinder, making it lighter and completely eliminates the risk of cylinder blast.The Indane gas dealers of Pollachi, were present with their team, show cased the products and requested the audience to contact them, in case of any clarifications regarding LPG connections for their homes. Mr. G. Diwakar – Sales Executive IOC Coimbatore Region thanked CVC and NGM College staff for having organized this program, aimed at spreading ‘safety norms’ while using LPG at our homes.Dr. R. PRIZE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY OF CVC INTER-COLLEGIATE COMPETITION 2023
Citizens’ Voice Coimbatore, a Voluntary Consumer Organization has always been in the forefront of taking up issues, from a broad perspective, for a common
cause aimed at empowering the next generation. CVC supported by CAG (Consumer Action Group), Chennai, M/s Zoho Corporation and M/s LYCA Kovai Kings, conducted an Inter-Collegiate Competition, on the 19th & 20th August, at Kumaraguru College Campus. The theme of the competition was aptly named ‘Green Tech Fusion’ and was split into 3 topics, viz Solid Waste Management, Renewable Energy and Digital Era. Teams were allowed to choose any one of the 3 subjects to showcase their talent either through a street play, skit, mime or display & explain futuristic models / ideas on the chosen topic, highlighting the latest revelations in the subject.Over 300 students from 18 different colleges took part in this innovative competition, to bring out the talents and skills of the student population. Apart from many colleges from Coimbatore, there were colleges from Karur, Thiuchengode, Gobichettiplayam who participated in the event. Mr. C.M. Jayaraman, President, Citizens’ Voice Coimbatore welcomed the gathering and highlighted some of the major milestones achieved by the organization during 2022 – 2023.
Mr. G.Chandeesh – Deputy Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore North, was the chief guest at the Prize Distribution held on 24 th Aug. at the same venue. He emphasized the need for youth to keep innovating and look at new possibilities to improve their careers.
Principal Dr. Vijala Edwin Kennedy of Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts & Science presided over the function and appreciated the organizers for the efforts taken and choosing topics that were relevant to current trends. The Guest of Honor Dr. V. Gopinath – Scientist F of Bureau of Indian Standards, released a handbook – Compendium of Consumer Court Judgements. The book consists of the most relevant and recent judgements from the Consumer Courts, which will provide clear insights into the legal precedents and protect consumers’ rights effectively.
Mr. Subramanian. P, Coordinator, Citizens’ Voice Coimbatore proposed a Vote of thanks and concluded with a closing remark that both Citizens Voice Coimbatore and Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts & Science wish to carry forward the spirit of collaboration to conduct more such innovative events in the future.
VALEDICTORY FUNCTION OF CVC- CERTIFICATE COURSE
The Valedictory function for the ‘first batch’ of 40 students, who attended the Certificate Course – (Consumer Protection Act, Insight into RTI and Waste Management – its’ impact on Environment) conducted by CVC in coordination with NGM Pollachi, was held on 29th March, 2023 at NGM College.
The HOD of Commerce Dept. Dr. Brundha, welcomed the gathering and stressed the importance of this course to students. The Chief Guest of the day was Former Coimbatore District Court & Consumer Court Judge Mr. A.B. Balachander and the function was presided by the Principal of NGM College Dr. Muthukumaran. Judge Balachander address the outgoing students, by highlighting the importance of being a ‘responsible consumer’ and the urgent need to take care of our environment by being responsible citizen in making our towns /cities a better place to live in.
Dr. Manikandan – Asst Prof. of Commerce Dept. proposed a vote of thanks, only after an effective interactive session with the students. NGM College, proposes to have the second batch of students ready for the coming academic year in the next couple of months.
BIS & FEDCOT – INDIA IN ASSOCIATION WITH CVC- AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
Bureau of Indian Standards, Coimbatore Branch in association with FEDCOT (Federation of Consumer Organizations of Tamil Nadu) joined hands with Citizens Voice Coimbatore, to launch an Awareness Campaign of Indian Standards to households, across India, beginning 15 th March to commemorate the World Consumer Rights Day.
Despite the given time constraints we had gathered 115 students from 8 different colleges across Coimbatore district, who willingly participated in the Orientation Program and offered to be ‘Volunteers’ for the Quality Connect Campaign. The idea of this All-India level campaign was to highlight the importance of BIS as a Standards Institution and explain its various activities to public at large, thereby creating awareness.
The Orientation Program was very well conducted by BIS officials, Mr. Rajeev and Mr. Kavin. The Orientation program concluded with an interactive Question / Answer session, thereby clarifying all queries related to the Quality Connect campaign.A remarkable feature of this campaign was that this was a ‘paperless’ campaign and was being conducted across India on 15 th March, simultaneously linking up all the volunteers thru’ the BIS App. Out of 114 volunteers who participated on behalf of CVC / FEDCOT, 95 students have successfully completed the campaign, covering a minimum of 25 households, by each volunteer. We would like to put on record the appreciation that goes to BIS, who have announced an honorarium payment of Rs. 1500 per each of the volunteers, who has completed the campaign successfully.
Field Visit to Odanthurai village
CVC Management team organized a field visit to Odandurai Village Panchayat, for the current batch of students at NGM College Pollachi, who have enrolled for the Certificate Course on CPA & Waste Management conducted by CVC. Mr. Shanugam – Ex President of Odandurai Panchayat took the students on a site tour and explained the highlights of the various schemes started by him during the difficult days and dwelled on how good governance can actually help build a ‘Better India’
Visit to District Consumer Redressal Forum
CVC officials had organized a visit to the District Redressal Forum courts for the students of NGM college who have enrolled fir the certificate course in Consumer Protection. It was a part of the scheduled practical session of the course, as per the approved syllabus being arranged by CVC in collaboration with NGM College Pollachi. The students got a ‘hands on’ experience of the proceedings at the Court / Forum, which we presume will go a long way for students to retain the important aspect of CPA.
National Conference on Air Pollution & Climate Change
CVC Representatives participated in the National Conference on Air Pollution & Climate Change, at Chennai on 31st Jan 2023, conducted by Citizen Consumer and Civic & Action Group, Chennai. Eminent speakers including Mr. G. Sundarajan – Poovulagin Nanbargal; Prof. Sultan Ismail, Member of the State Planning Commission, Tamil Nadu; Mr. Sunil Dahiya, Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air and Mr. Shibu Nair of Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives. The session was an eye opener, highlighting the importance improving our waste management techniques, thereby improving the quality of the air we breathe.
- MOCK COURT COMPETITIONAs a part of our 40th anniversary celebrations, Citizens’ Voice Coimbatore., conducted a two day inter collegiate ‘mock court competition’ on consumer awareness, on 26th & 27th Nov. at Bishop Appasamy College of Arts & Science. It was an overwhelming success with 82 teams participating from 18 colleges in the competition. It was carried out jointly with the support of DCB Bank, Citizen Consumer & Civic Action Group, Chennai; Anti Corruption Movement, Covai and Vevasayeegal Sangam, Kovai District.Prize money of Rs. 10000, 5000 and 3000 have been finalized for the first three positions, excluding a Rolling shield for the Best Performing College and a special prize for the best Coordinator amongst the participating teams.The main objective of the competition was to create consumer awareness and an understanding of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. among college students.It was well received and CVC intends to have the prize distribution on the 17th Dec. which will soon be updated on this website.
CERTIFICATE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY
In a first of its kind, CVC successfully conducted a Certificate Course on Consumer Protection Act, RTI and Solid Waste Management – its impact on environment, in association with NGM College Pollachi. The Certificate Distribution Ceremony, for the first batch of 36 students was held on 22nd June 2023 at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial hall, at Podanur, Coimbatore.The function was presided over by Mr. R. Thangavel – President, District Consumer Redressal Commission, who emphasized the need for the younger generation to know about Consumer rights and the boon given by RTI Act to the common man, in India. Special guest Mr. Srirangam R Murali, Head of Programmes, All India Radio / Doordarshan felicitated the students highlighted the advantages of having an insight in CPA, RTI and the Environment around us, for better sustainability. Another special guest Mr. C. Gopinath, Scientist F, from the Bureau of Indian Standards, Coimbatore also felicitated the recipients, explaining the significance of the legitimate rights of a Consumer and also spoke about how Bureau of Indian Standards is taking forward their initiatives to the Consumer, thru’ their BIS App and Quality Connect programmes.All the guests appreciated the efforts taken by CVC to bring about such a course to the student community and Mr. Jayaraman, President CVC spoke of the major achievements during the last 4 decades of CVC. Joint Secretary of CVC, Mr. M.M. Rajendran proposed a vote of thanks.
- ” CVC team were invited by Shree Venkateshwara College, Gobichettipalyam for the MOU signing ceremony, followed by a lecture on Consumer Awareness by Mr. CM Jayaraman, for over 300 students.Subsequent to this, Mr. R. Kumar of CVC conducted a ‘Mock Court’ demo session, for the benefit of the students.Later Mr. Subramanian addressed the students on how to make ‘wealth from waste’. Students were advised on the impact of waste in India, if not managed better.Finally, Mr. Odandurai Shanmugam, gave a very well received speech on ‘good governance in local bodies -Clean Energy.The program was extremely well organized and CVC thanks the Management of Shree Venkateshwara College for the same.

P conducted a guest lecture on Consumer Protection Act and on Waste Management challenges, to students of RVS Institute of Management Studies, on 15th Nov. The management team consisting of Dr. P.V. Prabha, Director – Institute of Management Studies & Dr. Dharmalingam welcomed CVC members. The interactive session was well received by the budding MBA graduates.
An MOU signing ceremony was held at M/s Jansons Institute of Technology, on 17th Nov. CVC was represented by Mr. C.M. Jayaraman & Mr. Subramanian. P. The Management team from Jansons consisting of Dr. M.V. Suresh Kumar – Director Administration, Dr. R.Senjudarvannan – Prof. & HOD of Physics Dept. and Dr. S Bhavani – Prof. Dept. of Physics, welcomed the team from CVC. A guest lecture session was arranged by the college, related to Consumer Protection act, which was well attended by over 300 students (First year engineering students).
Certificate course on Consumer Protection Act and Waste Management and its impact on Environment was launched on 01st Oct. at NGM College Pollachi, by Mr. Srirangam Murali – Head of Programs, All India Radio and Doordarshan, Coimbatore. The faculty includes imminent professors and senior consumer activists, which has attracted over 50 students to register for the first batch, in a span of 2 weeks!
Looking at the response received on the inaugural course, CVC plans to introduce this course at other colleges, with preference to those linked to CVC, in line with their MOU
A successful program on Cyber Crime Awareness at Bishop Appasamy College on 11th Oct. in association with Coimbatore City Police and SBI, Zonal office, Coimbatore. Mr. Dileep Singh Yadav, Deputy General Manager, SBI Coimbatore, delivered the keynote address, stressing the point about how Banks are available to guide the public, in order to prevent getting cheated in ‘online transactions’.
Mr. V. Balakrishnan, IPS – Commissioner of Police addressed the gathering, citing examples and the necessity for public to be extra careful while sharing personal data on social media platforms. The program was very well received with students from various college in attendance, including with few senior citizens.
Traffic Offense by Juveniles – An Awareness Campaign.
CVC is in touch with RTO & Traffic Police Dept. to spread the awareness of penalties involved for juveniles, for driving on public roads. It will be an extensive poster campaign, being done in association with Traffic Police and RTO officials and posters will be affixed on all school notice boards and student transport buses.
Meeting with State Highways Dept. on 4th Sept.
Office bearers of CVC met the Divisional Engineer State highways Dept on 4th Sept. and enlightened him on the pathetic road conditions and the severe encroachments in Nanjundapuram Road, Bharathiyar University Road to PN Pudur, Perur Road & other roads and urged him to take immediate steps. The DE after giving the participants a patient hearing assured steps will be taken at the earliest

We have been constantly complaining with the Coimbatore Corporation officials for the indiscriminate digging of important roads, especially during this festive
season which results in a huge inconvenience to travelling public.
