The conversion of Coimbatore – Pollachi rail track from Meter gauge to Broad gauge. Introduction of Coimbatore-Madurai Train

RERA

We were the first to conduct an ‘open house’ meeting of RERA at Coimbatore city, for consumers to voice their grievances

Regional Transport Authority

Successfully took up against usage of ‘air horns’ in commercial vehicles and rules are now in place to penalize offenders

Bank

During demonetisation – raised many issues, with RBI in order to ease the enormous difficulties raised by the public

DSO

Senior citizens who had difficulties in affixing fingerprints, at PDS outlets, are now exempted from this requirement, due to efforts taken by CVC

Aavin

CVC mooted the idea to increase the number of licensed vendors to operate ‘booths’ and high-end parlors in the city

Corporation Authorities

Transparency in procedure for building plan approvals, thru’ computerization. Status check on Water connection applications, thru’ computerization.  Road repairs and
non-conformity of fly over bridge design was taken up

District Road safety

Repeated campaigns were conducted in schools, along with Traffic Police teams, to educate kids about traffic rules and the importance to its adherence.  Along with RTO officials’ campaigns were successfully conducted to stop ‘minors’ from riding two / four wheelers

Electricity Services Provider

After prolonged follow up, TANGEDCO have introduced Serial numbering system on all poles in the city for ease of tracking location and its maintenance.

Current Areas of Interest

Colleges are where the change in outlook must find formal substance. CVC is in the process of signing Memorandums of Understanding with premier colleges in & around Coimbatore, to form Consumer Clubs in their respective campus to get the attention of student community, who will be the driving force for a better tomorrow. Currently it has tied up with over 15 colleges, who will soon be a part of the CVC Family.

CVC plans to conduct inter-collegiate ‘mock court’ competitions, related to CPA, soon which will be followed by ‘slogan / essay writing’ on climate control & waste management

A unique Certificate Course on Consumer Protection, Waste Management & its impact on Environment and basics of RTI has been launched, in association with NGM College Pollachi on 1st Oct 2022. The enrollment was capped to 50 students and faculty includes eminent Consumer Activists, Environmentalists and distinguished Professors from Colleges.

CVC has successfully introduced ‘Field Water Testing Kits’ thru’ college students and various other help groups to help citizens / farmers check the quality of water, on site to ‘indicate’ if the water is suitable for the intended application. The forum intends to come up with similar test kits for other products like milk, fossil fuels, vegetable oils etc

To undertake a series of ‘guest lectures’ at various UG / PG level colleges, in association with their respective Placement Cell, to show case the window of opportunities that lay in the field of ‘Waste Management’ and the abundant potential available in becoming entrepreneurs

Constant follow up related to re-introduction of trains between Coimbatore and Rameswaram, via Pollachi and Tirunelveli. To pursue our efforts in obtaining railway concessional fares for senior citizens, which was stopped during the Covid pandemic period

To keep reminding authorities, about the urgent need to improve the ‘storm water drainage’ system in Coimbatore, especially at major under bridge road intersections

Repetitive messages and constant follow up to eradicate the foul smell emanating from the Vellolore dump yard (land fill) and to get the Micro Composting Centers operational for better waste management
